Thanks everyone! I've already found tons of great info! Appreciate it.

One noobie question... I haven't been able to find any online part websites here in Japan. There are tons in the US though (I have a US credit card with a US address).. Unfortunately, it seems there aren't many options for 318 parts on US sites. I've only found stuff for the 325i... Are parts for the 318 and 325 interchangeable (not talking engine or transmission of course), specifically bushings and coolant systems?

I'd second cendrian. A service isn't rocket science so personally I wouldn't want to pay bmw prices for someone to change my oil and filters but it's all down to personal choice and circumstances considering whether you want to command a higher re-sale price and whether you find an indy you trust to do anything more???
Obviously on the parts question you would have to find out for sure, preferably from bmw, but I would assume that steering and suspension bushes are the same but I would also assume that some parts of the coolant system would be different. I know, if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle! If you can't speak to someone of authority, then just check the part numbers are the same.
How much is go go juice over there?

That's what I was thinking... Only a handful of European car mechanics in town, I'll look for a good one! It looks like I'm probably the third owner, as BMW paperwork only goes as far as 2007. No stamps since then, so I'm not worried about stamps so much.

Premium gas is going for about ¥135-¥145 a liter. Pricey compared to you boys? Definately is compared to US prices.
