Real name is Jamie. Born and bred in Cardiff but now live near Lincoln.
I drive an E46 318i SE, owned it since 2004 and only really used it for driving to and from work (the ultimate commuter machine). Just had a quick look for photos of it on my computer and the attatched one is the only one I could find...
A few months ago whilst negotiating the southbound M5 the water pump bearing failed and so the impeller chewed itself up, both belts came off (thank GOD for chain driven cams!!!) and the dash lit up like a christmas tree! Next thing I noticed was the engine temp needle hitting the max position so quickly it nearly snapped. By this time I was already coasting towards the hard shoulder with the engine turned off and the hazards on. Sadly it was too late because as I came to a stop the expansion tank commited suicide with a bang and dumped its contents onto the engine. Crapped my pants from the bang and what I initially thought was smoke! Luckily no permanent damage to the engine from the overheating.
Recently started getting violent shaking through the steering wheel under heavy braking. Got the front end up on jacks and didn't like what I found. Busted inner control arm ball joint on one side and a completely mashed rear control arm bush on the other... GUTTED!
Which brings me on neatly as to why I'm here. Didn't want to pay silly prices at the garages for something I was sure I could do myself, so I started scouring the net for advice and info. This place wins hands down and the advice and tips from members has given me the confidence to give it a go. I'm no stranger to hammer or spanner if it's got wings, but when it comes to wheels I didn't know where to start, so thank you all!
Will post some photos of the damage and (fingers crossed) repair when it's done.
And, oh yeah... hello.
