    HI guys,

I bought my 316 E36 saloon a fornight ago and once I've changed the cam belt/chain (last done in 1999), starter motor(not engaging every now and again) and had it serviced I'll start modding further.
Needs a respray in Alpine White II and the alloys need a refurb (the cheapest bit for me to do being a painter)

    Welcome to the forum dan21.

Great to have you on board.

What year is your 316? I'm pretty sure it runs a cam belt as opposed to chain. Once you've let me know the year I will do a search for you.

If it turns out that it is a belt and the last records to show a replacement were 1999 then your next journey should be to your local independant.

Nice purchase. and A20 is right thats its a belt I think

Although your friend was nearly right as a lot of BMWs do use timing chains

    Yeah. That sounds right..

I thought it was the straight six engines (and V8s and V12) that used them but Im not 100%

either way. a belt is cheaper to replace
