    Hi all,

I am new to the forum, but not to Beemers i have previously owned a e36 316 i saloon and coupe then on to a e39 523i se, i bought a Volvo s40 about ten months ago in which i have spent quite a lot of money on, and the other day after just getting it through a M.O.T. the thrust bearing decided to hand in notice, and rather than fixing it in the street in this weather, i have decided to return back to BMW and im picking up a rather tidy 1998 e36 318 i tomorrow, and decided to join this forum as they always come in handy, for info and chat.

Thanks to all for the welcome's, but sadly i didnt get the Bmw after been messed about by the garage i went to chesterfield to pick the car up as they struggled to get a M.O.T. on it, when i got there the bonnet was up in the air and they told me that the car had been left in minus 7 weather with no antifreeze in it and it had boiled up when they drove it back from the test station, they said it had ice in it and that they was thawing it out and that the thermostat wanted replacing because it had stuck shut, they started it up and there was clouds of smoke coming from the exhaust, i said to them that the it looked like the head gasket had gone, but they was adamant that because the car was cold the fuel managment system was compensating for this thats the reason for the clouds of smoke, i said i think youll find that the head gasket has gone mate remove the oil filler cap in which he did and the pressure just whistled out, he then said i think you are right, and i was so that was the end of that which is a shame because it was a very tidy car.

Anyway all is not lost as i have bought another e36 318i, but it reguires some bodywork, there is a dent to the rear arch on the os, a rust patch to the sill on the os, the front os wing is rust city, so im going to get a second hand one in the same colour, the ns rear arch is rusty, and there is two small scabs on passenger door, apart from that the car is tidy with an excellent engine and gearbox, just waiting for the warmer weather now so i can do these bits and replace the thrust bearing in the volvo.
