225/4517 rolling radius is 317.15mm/1992.71mm circumference

215/4017 rolling radius is 301.90mm/1896.89mm circumference

The difference in circumference is -95.82mm or -4.81%

If these tyres were fitted to the axle that the speedometer works from then when your speedo reads 70mph you will be travelling at 66.63mph.

215/4517 rolling radius is 312.65mm/1964.44mm circumference

The difference in circumference is -28.27mm or -1.42%

Again if these tyres were on the axle that the speedometer works from then when your speedo reads 70mph your actual speed would be reading 69.01mph.

The above information tells us that the tyre you would like to fit is undersized for your vehicle and the recommended tyre size for the front would be a 215/4517.

:rofl :rofl :rofl

19's:confused you cheeky git:D:lol

Why would I have A20 RYM as a number plate if I had 19's. I've got A19 RYM on the missus Zafira because that's got 19" wheels on it:hihi

When my speedo reads 70 mph i'm actually travelling at 72.46mph

Standard size 205/6015 rr=313.5mm/1969.78mm circ

235/3020 rr=324.5mm/2038.89mm circ

Difference in circumference is 69.11mm or 3.51%

My fronts are 225/3020 rr=321.50mm/2020.04mm circ

Difference in circumference is 50.26mm or 2.55% If they were fitted to the rear axle then when the speedo reads 70mph the car would actually be travelling at 71.79mph.:cool

10 years in the wheel and tyre trade has taught me a thing or two hence the reason that my car was the first car in the UK to have 20" wheels fitted without an arch type body kit or arch modifications ( as stated by Redline magazine when they featured it ). Three in the rear, boot full of ice and lowered to the lowest setting the H&R coilovers will go to and still no scrubbing......... If a job's worth doing then it;s worth doing RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup

No worries mate, I thought you were showing your humourous side. We enjoy a good laugh on here:D

Yes it should. 215 is the size of the tread part of the tyre in mm's. The size of the sidewall is 45% of the tyre tread and obviously the 17 is the diameter of the wheel.

The only difference between the 215/4017 and 215/4517 is the measurement of the sidewall. This is why there is a difference in the overall cimcumference of the two tyres.:thumbsup

What is the width of the front's? Are they 8J?

I'm pretty sure they will look stretched but not like the euro VW's. Contact these guys, http://swtyres.co.uk/contact/ ask for Matt Auty and he will advise you of the size tyres that you can get away with fitting.

There are minimum and maximum size tyres you can fit to a rim, the euros just tend to ignore them. Going too stretched could result in the tyre popping off it's bead.:jaw-dropping

What he doesn't know about wheels and tyres isn't worth knowing. He is a director of the company so can be difficult to get hold of at times.:frown
