I have just had a pleasure of getting my first "bimmer" at 30....
First car ever was '92 For Escort 1.6 LX - bad boy - I know...
Moved to a '91 Red 1.4 Golf which had the unique spec of the fan tanning you in the summer (rad crack so overheating and had to put fan on to cool the engine) and freezing you in the winter- I remember having to wrap up in the cold when driving in this heap...
Finally I moved on to what was then my dream car - a '95 Toyota Soarer - V8 lump and silk smooth - till I managed to wrap it round a tree round the corner from my house... EMBARASSING...
I was not quite done with Soarer ownership so managed to get another '95 V8 and was happy with it as a weekend driver for the last 3 years of ownership.
Now I was previously not a major BMW enthusiast - and now I dont know why - after driving a couple of E46 320/330 I feel I found my calling. After looking for just 1 week I found a decent example of a 2002 e46 330i sport (4 door). Has 74k miles otherwise a pretty standard spec (M sport). I had to have the sporty look but wanted something that was a practical saloon too for the wife/baby.
I have managed to convince the wife that the 330i sport saloon was the perfect car for all our needs now that we have the baby.... and is very safe- not sure she will approve once we start going out in it... This thing is quick!
And it is an absolutely joy to drive... just getting used to the feel of it all.
My only questions to other forum members:
- Should the steering on this 330i sport feel heavier than other BMWs? It's still definitely working else the wife could not steer it at all. I have checked the power steering fluid is not leaking - but how do you check if the p/s pump may be on its way out? Looking at threads it could be a few hundred to replace. Anyone know any good independent garages in SW19?
- I know the ride is firmer by dint of the sport's suspension but if I wanted to 'soften' this up - what would you suggest? Anyone riding on this with the "17 BMW sport alloys noticing a difference compared to the 18" MV alloys?
A pleasure to finally be a BMW owner.
Regards to you all.
