    Hi,

I thought I'd come on here for some advice before I go and buy my first BMW

I have just sold my Golf Gti for £6000, and I have about £3500 to put towards it if I have to

For the last few weeks I had set my mind on a 320d m sport, about 2009 model. But after reading about timing chains, fly wheels, turbo's and so on I am now thinking more about the 3 litre version. Probably the 325 or the 330 as I am not that keen on Automatics, saying that I've never driven one.

I have seen a couple for sale for about £8000, 2007 and done about 80,000 miles which are ok but don't have the spec that I want. I really like the Le mans Blue colour, ideally with sat nav and xenons. I'm trying not to panic buy as I'm obviously now without a car.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated.. 325 or 330? what to look out for when buying one? maybe the 320 is not that bad as some say?

    Thank You

Just seem to have so many teething problems (forums are full of people with issues with their diesels) which put me off going down the 330d route.

P.S Welcome fellow Welshman, I was in Bangor on Friday for a meeting

    Hi to make sure

I have a 525d m sport on 06 plate, mine is a 2500cc the newer ones I think 2008 onwards share the 3000 litre lump, just check

I love mine, had it remapped recently and makes a lot of difference

don't buy any diesel with the dpf removed because as of February 2014 it is an mot failure, you will prob find some people trying to shift there cars before mot time due to the fact I think its approx. £1500 upwards to have new one fitted if been removed, can find full details on mot on vosa sight

I get low to mid thirties to the gallon around town, on a run can hit high forties driving sensibly

330d/530d I think is the next step when I change mine which wont be for a while yet, I prefer manual to as more m.p.g than the auto's

    good luck finding one

    cheers

Get the best one for your budget coming from a golf gti why dont u bag a nice e46 M3 or e90/92 330i petrol for £9000 tif thats your budget theres plenty about the mpg isnt at all bad on the 330i

Get m-sport if u like rigid handling like the golf get SE model if u like a softer ride

Best to get out there testing them at traders local to u even if your not going to buy you can compare the drives

    E46 coupe 318ci
    E46 convertible 330ci
    E46 coupe 325ci
    E85 Z4R 3.0i
    E46 coupe 330ci
    E85 Z4R 2.2i
    E46 convertible 318ci
    E85 Z4R 2.5si
