I recently started modifying my partner and I's E36 316i Compact. She always use to go on about beemers are wonderful!, they're more than just something to get you from A to B! etc, etc. I have to admit I was once in the frame of mind that a car's just a car. That is until an unfortunate (or very fortunate, depending on how you look at it) inccident happened where her old Fiesta was stolen one snowy Sunday night only to be found burnt out and crumpled in a field up the road the next day!
Anyway, after the initial shock and tears (from her may I add!) we started looking on ebay for a cheap motor. We came across the Compact not far from where we live, it had a bit of a prang in the passenger side door and the rear quarter was slightly dented but other than that it was sound so we bought it for £700!
I was driving a Renault Megane coupe that I'd had no end of trouble with so decided to get rid of it as I don't need the car for getting to work as it's only a 10 minute walk and quite frankly I could do with the excercise! After I started driving the beemer I have to admit I was hooked and my girl adopted one of those "I told you so" smug grins!!!
From back when I first started driving I've always wanted to mod a car but never had the opportunity to do it. Luckily my girl's a bit of a petrol head and loved the idea of tidying up the Compact. So far I've replaced the ugly orange indicators with smoked ones and changed the standard side repeaters with M3 style clear ones that I must say has already made an improvement!
Just bought a set of 17" M3 EVO replica rims that we're picking up next week and I can't wait to get them on the car.
Future plans include performance exhaust, corner splitters on the front bumper or possibly the E46 style M3 bumper, M3 or K6 style wing mirrors, bumpers, side skirts and said mirrors colour coded while replacing passenger door and body work being touched up then possibly having the windows tinted.
I'll post some photos along the way to show you all the progress.
Bye for now,
