    Hey Dan

Welcome to the forum, glad to have another e34 enthusiast. They are the new cool , and by all accounts one of the better put together BMW models.

As far as mods go, there are definitely a few more bhp lurking under the bonnet, but they will definitely not be free.

Here and here are two good threads on tuning the e34 525i.

The bottom line is that you will be able to achieve a performance uplift without spending silly money, but if you want serious performance improvements, then you are talking £££ - turbo's, super-charging etc. There is an article in last month's BMW Mag about an e39 525i which has been turbo'd to give near-as-dammit M5 performance, at a cost of over £3700

The quickest way to pep up your car is to try and get it as close to original power as poss - ie rather than go for getting more bhp, try and get back the ones you will have lost due to age, bad tune etc - a good service, good quality clean airfilter and dyno-tune will bring a bit more sparkle to performance, unless you have bought a real enthusiasts car which has been perfectly maintained...

Mods look good and sound impressive, but I tend to always say (with apologies to Jerry Maguire) ''Show me the bhp / lap times!''

And, with apologies to another movie great, namely Vin Diesel, "it's not how you mod your car, it's how you drive your car!"

Having shown off my twin carbs, performance airfilter and sports exhaust and then been embarressed on both track and rally stages by lower specced, less modded cars, I can testify to the truth of that statement!
