Last year I made a transition from old Audi 80s to my old 323i, with a MK3 Mondeo in between (let's not even go there).
The Beemer's been a really good car so far; done the last 10,000 miles without missing a beat and has generally been really enjoyable; especially the RWD!
However, I'm a bit concerned about an accumulation of mayonnaise occuring under the oil filler cap and in the oil breather pipe. Obviously it would suggest head gasket problems, but I changed the oil & coolant as soon as I got the car and neither have dropped in level since or otherwise show any serious signs of cross-contamination. The engine runs as sweet as a nut 100% of the time and averages 32mpg with the odd blast around country lanes.
I had the rocker cover off and the mayonnaise is completely localised around the filler cap and in the breather pipe; nowhere else, almost as if moisture is getting into the system from outside somehow; I thought possibly just outdoor condensation on cold nights? Has anyone else experienced this?
I'd also like to know if anyone successfully uses the Torque app for Android with their non-fully OBD compliant E36, and what OBD-bluetooth adaptor they use? I already have a round 24-pin to OBD converter cable, but the bluetooth adaptor I used (£10 Chinese knock-off) didn't seem to want to work. It works with my brother's 2006 Jag X-Type but not his 1998 Freelander.
