I found this forum through a member here called granvil, who bought an OBC from me on eBay. I'm looking forward to spending some time here
I've been into BMWs for a couple of years now, ever since one shot past me on a windy country lane so smoothly and composed, then snaked off into the distance! I can't think of any cars that suit me better at the moment; rear wheel drive (this one is important!), great balance and handling, driver feel, good build quality, refined, comfy, good looking, not too expensive to run... the list goes on!
Anyway, my first BMW was the little-loved E36 316i Compact in Boston Green that I picked up nearly a year ago. Despite what people say about the suspension and build etc., compared to my admittedly limited experience with other vehicles it felt sublime! Great steering feedback, neutral handling, smooth drive. I was impressed and grew attached to that little car. However, it was only ever a temporary fix and about 2 months ago I drove it across Europe to Hungary in order to visit family and sell it (LHD). The drive over there was fantastic. Sustaining 120mph (GPS) on the Autobahn and having the car feel more planted than my Clio at 80mph was a revelation to me at least!
I've since replaced it with a Hellrot '97 318is, which I am loving. It feels a lot quicker than I thought it would actually, and of course the handling is superb with the sport suspension and small engine. Although probably lowly to many of you, it's quite a step up from the Compact. I plan to keep it for maybe 6 months and fix a few niggles whilst I search for the best E36 328i Sport I can find for my money. Since experiencing the silky smooth straight-6, I need one in my life!
So anyway, sorry for the big first post and hello from a likely naive BMW fan
