Hi, thought as im in the process of searching hard for a E36 325i i'd join to do some reading, and add my thoughts.

Im 19 I live in Devon. I currently drive an Escort van 1.8 Non-turbo, so you can imagine im classy.

I've owned 5 other Escorts and a Mk3 VW Polo in the year and a half that i've been driving. lol.

I originally wanted to get a 320 e36 but everyone says they arnt that quick with the power-weight. And also informed me to get a 323-328, and the 325 is only insurance group 15, so I've decided to settle with that.

I dont have a hell of aload to spend, but I want to make it look nice.

Im a member on a few other forums mainly an Escort one, and theres things new starters do like admit that they are going to do frowned apon mods. So instead of embarrasing myself infront the beemer crowd, I wont say what I plan to do lol.

    Cheers

What do you want to know
The engines are pretty strong as long as they have not been overheated. Just budget for a new water pump and thermostat straight away. They eat rear trailing arm bushes every couple of years, but replacing them takes approx an hour each side. Use poly bushes
The inner ball joints on the tie-rods can wear but these are an easy fix
Outer ball joint failure is common on the lower arms, but new arms are fairly cheap.
Just buy the best one with the highest spec you can afford.

Have a good shop around for parts mate. Some things are cheaper than you would expect.
