    Hello

I found this forum by chance, thought I'd better say hello.

I'm from sunny (rainy) Cornwall and am ready to convert from Vauxhall to an E46 BMW.

The model I'm thinking of replacing my Vauxhall is the E46 318i SE (either saloon, coupe or compact)

Besides service history, is there anything else that I need to know or look out for before purchasing this model?

I understand that number(s) of keys are important, so how many keys should they come with?

Do I get 2 keys with remotes as standard? If not, then how much is a second key with remote?

    Thanks

    Tony

Welcome to the forum, I'm fairly sure that all Bimmers will come with 2 keys as standard. Might be a good idea to get an AA or RAC inspection done before buying, or better still, see if you have a local independant BM specialist nearby. My local indy does 'before you buy' inpsections for about £60. Sadly I'm not familiar with your area but maybe there'll be someone in the know from your area.

    You'll like it here...

Bushes & wishbones (front mainly)...... E46's can go through them fairly quick, depending on the quality of your roads.

Final stage resistor on the heater can fail, window regulators can fail at 60k (preventative measures with silicon spray will delay/prevent? this), airbag sensor mats can result in the warning light on the dash coming up. Its not a big problem, the car just doesnt know if there is someone sat in the passenger seat, so the default setting is for the airbag to go off in the event of an accident regardless of if anyone is sat there................ but costs an eye watering £300+ to fix at a dealer......... i didnt bother!

You should have 2 remote keys, 1 master key (no remote) and i think something called a valet key. New remote keys cost about £110.

Hope that helps, good luck with your search.

Thanks very much for the welcome and information regarding what to look for and also information regarding the keys.

The nearest BMW Specialist to me is Mavromatis (1 mile) and Ocean BMW (10 miles), I live in Four Lanes, just outside of Redruth.

Welcome buddy, I haven't used these guys but they're only in Redruth so maybe worth a punt. http://bmwandminispecialist.co.uk/

I used to live in Penryn, Ocean are ok but being a dealer are pricey.

    Hi Mate

Thanks for the link, that's the one that is about 1 mile from me, he's the one I referred to as Mavromatis as I believe that was his trading name before he changed his name to Howard's as he now specialises in Mini's as well.
