    Hello all!

Just been having a gander around the forum over the past couple of days and must say there is a lot of information here.
I currently do not have a BMW but have been looking to replace my current car to a BMW (just about to go out on a test drive too)
Been reading up on the daily motor rags as well on the 3 Series and they all seem to plump for the 320D ES. I'd rather prefer a 320D M Sport myself so thats the ones that I am looking at but there seems to be a lot of nearly new facelift 318D M Sports going at the moment. Should I stick out for a nice 320D M Sport or is the 318D just as good?
Also since I am not in a real rush at the moment, I will be looking for ones with Bluetooth and/or Sat Nav. Is there anything else that is a must have? (I will have another look through the forums later)
    Thanks,
    Alex

welcome matey I'd go for the 320d unless the economy of the 318d would sway you (though I doubt there's much in it in the real world)

    Welcome to the forum Alex.

You sound like you've been doing your research. The M Sports is a nice level of trim and a 318 will be mighty frugal. If i was going for the fuel ecomony side of the market i would probably go for the 318 to be honest. Modern diesels are so good that it wont feel slow (i am continuously impressed by my 115bhp 2003 Mondeo Estate TDCi and that engine is in a big old car) so the 318d will be fine.

Leather is a real bonus if you can find one with the correct colour.

    Anyway.....welcome.

    Thanks for the welcome guys.
Well I went to a BMW Dealer in Glasgow and even though I didn't buy (my car was in an accident last week and I am in the process of looking for potential replacements if the worse comes to the worse) Anyways I couldn't have been treated any better by the staff there (compared to another dealership) and took a 318D M Sport out for a test drive.
Impressions on the whole. A lot of positives and good things, you suddenly realise the jump in quality and build. The car just felt right and everything was at hand and the layout of the dash was simple and effective.
The 318D has a lot of grunt and is pretty punchy (I have a 2.0 ltr Seat Leon MKII PD140) but its ohh soo smooth and it doesn't sound like a derv at all from inside the car. The one that I took out was a 59 Plate in space grey and had 4.5K on it so it was barely run in.
As for the 318 vs 320 debate, I am not 100% sure. I can see the benefits of the 318 but part of me thinks that the 320 is the better bet out of the two as it has been mentioned out in the real world there is prob not a big difference between the two.
I think its time to do some more research
    Alex

same engine in the 318 just detuned. To be honest i'd buy the best you can within your budget and with the spec you want, whether that ends up being a 18 or a 20. What you wanna do is go a year or too older and get a 330d

    and welcome to the forums

I would love a 325D or a 330D but budget will not stretch and I don't really want to go too old (3 years max) but seeing that I have the luxury of time (well as long as I can stand my Insurance and Public Transport) I can have a look around the 'one' as it were.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Ok stoopid question what plate did the current facelift come out on? 57/08?
I know there is a 2010 facelift coming but I am looking at the current ones.

If it were me I'd def go older and get the bigger lump, mines 4 years old and you would never know, let someone else loose the cash on a newer motor and get yourself a bargin

    Chopper

If you want something done right do it yourself !
