Hi guys, Ive been a 9 year bmw driver always a 3series to date. Had my 318is saloon for 5 years and now I think its time to get a new girl. Ive always wanted a 3series touring. Been looking about the past month browsing the web. Up untill I took the missis out to look at some tourer and saloons and I stumbled onto the 5 series, the e60 530d m sport auto in mystic blue. WOW she did look nice. So now im looking at the 530 m sport. Always had manuals not tried autos, always thought it would take bit of the driving experience away. Can anyone comment on the difference with the auto box? is it any good? also sorry to keep rambeling on but whats gains are over a 530 m sport and a 530d m sport. Does the m sport model give more horses? only ask as ive got a 318is and as its a sport model it has more hp than a standard 318.

    Pukka site guys,

Hmm, maybe it's just sporty wheels, sporty suspension and sporty bumpers/side skirts.

hiya mate, love the e60 but e36 is where im at, at the moment.
i pretty sure m sport just means its got the mtech bodywork, maybe wheels and suspension like dez says.
as for auto, ive never owned one and probably never will. i have driven them at work and can see why they appeal to people but think i might get lazy if i had one :P

Suspension, wheels, handling, body kit and sex appeal! Lol
530d horses with better consumption, but only worth getting if you use motorways etc , else you'll choke a diesel.
Auto tiptronic is a wheez, lazy when you want, but very useable like a manual when pressing on through corners.

    Hi Jay,

    Welcome on board,

e60 530D is the way forward, manuel if you can get it, less hassel then the auto, there are issues like swirl flaps, dpf and the idrive can be a night mare if its an older model and if its high milage make sure its got Full service history.

Regular oil changes do it the world of good, no crank case breather filter to worry about and lots of stuff out there to modifiy it if thats your huckle berry.

The dpf clogs up if your only doing short trips but do the odd motorway run and blasting it down the road should keep it clear, if it comes up as a fault just rag the tits of it as bringing it up to tempreture and going for a good run often clears it, Or delite it like i did.

swirl flap delite takes about 1 1/2 hrs to do if your good with tools

There are lots of examples out there so have a good look before you buy.
