Hi folks. I have joined this forum looking to deepen my pool of resources and knowledge and already have some questions I'm going to post in the relevant section. I have had a few E34's now and a couple of E39's and like to get my hands dirty so perhaps I might be able to offer help occasionally.
My current car is a '96 525iX Saloon in calypso red. It was meant to be an inbetween car while I fixed up a 525tds Touring, also in Calypso. The diesel turned out to be a bit of a dog and is still ongoing some extensive work to make it useable.
The tds is my current project and I am taking a lot of parts from a donor tourer. This donor is another iX. It has had a front end smash but the interior is pristene so i'm putting it in the tds. It is fully electric and in beige leather. Took a bit of research to get it to work in the lower spec car but I have sorted it now. Also needing to dye the dash and doorcard tops black as I'm not putting in the brown/beige dash and the current trim is light grey.
Other plans for the tds now it has been welded and once I have sorted out the corroded arches is to improve the spec as far as possible, replace as many panels for better condition ones and add 18" E39 M-paras once I have refurbished the ones I have. I'm going to lightly modify the styling too with tinted rear lights, rear and side windows, and if I can find some put some sport bumpers on it.
The donor iX only has 76000 miles on it and i think the bump it has had is repairable. I'm trying to get rid of it for the cost of the running gear but if it doesn't fetch me a few quid I might start to rebuild that once the tds is complete. It would be a great project.
The last one I have is a 520i SE with 140K. Not a lot wrong with it but I'm using it as a reference and spares car just now but eventually I'll break it up.
Anyway, if you managed to keep up with than well done, i'm off to the tech section now to ask about cruise control on an E34 tds
