Hello guys. Been a lurker here for a while, and have found this place a great resource for the budding DIY owner. I own a 1998 523i Touring, and have been gradually getting more involved in its upkeep. Partly due to feeling ripped off and unsatisfied with local garage service, and partly due to the fact that it makes me feel good.
Recently i've had to replace a front spring and a rear suspension airbag, both due to catastrophic failure. I've also just replaced the two drop links in the front suspension, that tie the anti roll bar to the rest of the wheel. Jobs yet to do are dealing with some small trim failures (courtesy lights and doorway trims and leather treating) through to replacing the rear wheel bearings and the other front spring/ rear airbag.
I said to the Wife the other day that it's taken me 10 cars (from my first to my current) to actually begin looking after and get involved in my car. But with this 523i, i feel it will reward me with a long period of reliable and enjoyable driving, if i simply invest my time and understanding in it.
I look forward to expanding and exploring my skills and making use of this invaluable forum.
