Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I have been into Vw's all my life and have had endless Golfs and Corrados of every Mk but now i fancy something different.

I'm now after a E36 cabriolet but i just can make my mind up on which to get.

Im after something quick so that rules out the 318 and 320 derivative but not an M3 as i dont fancy the running costs.

I have done a search but im either stupid or there arent any threads comparing the two cars. On paper the 328i has loads more torque but is there really a huge difference to the 325i?

    Many thanks in advance.

    James

Thanks for the quick reply, i was a trader before i emigrated and had half a dozen e36 tintops but no cabriolets unfortunately. As well as the engine choice i cant decide weather to go manual or auto. I like the idea of the easy auto but think i might miss ringing its neck throught the gears once in a while.

Is the general consensus that the 2.8 lump is far superior?

I'd go 328i. It's newer, it does everything the 325i does and more, plus if you go auto, the torque of the larger engine will help. The only reason I'd have the 325i is for the sound as in my opinion, it was the nicest sounding of the two

Do you mean go for a 325i as they are non vanos or go for a 328i as the variable valve vanos is better?

You wont get any more to the gallon out of a 325 than you will an M3 realistically.

I'm getting 28.9 to the gallon on average in the Evo. 325 wont do much better if at all to be honest.

    Welcome to the forum.

Vanos can be expensive if they go wrong.

If I had the choice and could afford to run one i'd go for the 325, theres quite a few simple mods you can do to increase the bhp.
