    Hi
I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could offer a bit of advice?
I purchased a 2003 compact from a BMW dealer with all the benefits from buying from a main dealer warranty etc
Upon inspection of the service history I noticed the last stamp in the book was NOT a BMW one?
I was led to believe that all used BMW's from main dealers had to have full BMWSH?
Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Steve

What is the name of the place that last serviced the vehicle. You may find that it was serviced by an independent BMW specialist???

Not sure of the FBMWSH ruling for a dealer to sell a car i'm afraid

Hi Thanks for speedy reply :-)

It was just an independant garage local to the area.
I always like to have a fully stamped up book for re-sale purposes as I cherish my vehicles for my own use and piece of mind when I sell it to the new owner.
I feel quite angry about it and I intend to raise the issue with the dealer once I can find out the whys where and what fors.
All approved used BMW's come with a years warranty so no worries there but it is just the stamp in the book thats bothering me!

Found this in the jargon they use to sell under approved used vehicles....

    Full service history

Only BMWs which have been maintained in strict adherence to BMW servicing recommendations can qualify as Approved Used BMWs. In addition, any BMW with a service due within 4,000 miles or displaying less than three service interval lights has the appropriate service carried out prior to delivery. The only exception is where the vehicle has the benefit of a service package where the requirement is reduced to 1,000 miles or one service light.

    any thoughts?

Yep... means they reserve the right to make up the rules to suit

They can argue that it is just one service out of "x" and complies with their strict adherence.

    Please keep us posted

Well car is in for Inspection 2 and MOT today so we'll see what they have to say when I pick it up later...
To be fair, for a "Stealer" they are pretty good.

I'm looking at selling it soon so want everything to be tip top for new owner....

It's definitely worth asking the question... perhaps you should try to get money back from the price of the inspection II service

Means as long as a independent or BMW specialist serviced it using BMW parts and serviced to BMW standards then it can be serviced pretty much anywhere.

This is a good thing for someone who.........
    A. Doesn't want to pay around £100 a hour
    B. Wants their car serviced with a bit more care as not all main dealers give this.(I did say NOT ALL )

It's a bad thing for some who........
    A. Like yourself like to have Full BMW only servicing as it may add more to the value of the car when selling.
    B. Like to have only BMW servicing when buying a car as they feel it will have been serviced by the experts.

It's a good thing to remember though that many BMW independent specialists are run by ex-BMW mechanics or owned by or have working in the workshop.

    And welcome to the forum

Pretty sure the garage on the stamp isn't a BMW specialist but I am destined to find out!

As long as they used BMW parts and followed the service guide you will be OK

It's all to do with Block exemption http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/cons...page38070.html
