    Hello,

Just bought my first sensible BMW (I had a cheap toy E30 once), a tidy 2008 E61 520d which I got after checking lots of posts on here first. Looks good in black with black leather.

Picking it up next week after the dealer sorts the infamous cheap leather, after many happy years in Alfas I was suprised how much better the Italians make seats!

Hoping it all goes well and will probably be asking some daft questions after it arrives,

    Matt

Welcome... you will need to do a long list of checks once bought, BME never change all the filter so would get a full oil, air, cabin and fule filter service done and check the air inlet hose on the self levelling suspension compressor (back off side under black cover) it perishes split and lets grime in the compressor resulting in an expensive repair.

Also don't be surprised if things on the rear window don't work, very common fault

Also ask him to go into the hidden menu and bring up test 7 (koolant temp). Start the car and go for a 10-12 min drive. If coolant doesn't reach 88C minimum - you have 1 or both thermostats failing (very very common failure), and could save yourself a couple of hundred pounds in parts & labour

Thanks everyone thats some good advice. Im picking the wagon up in a couple of days so Ill check all of that and let you know how it goes. You have got me worried though, sounds like more potential issues than the Alfa! (tyre wear and bad paint chipping are basically all that goes wrong on 159s)

They do need a little extra attention, but way ahead of most cars in terms of driving pleasure
