    Hi

Just bought a 2004 318i Estate (mainly for the wife).

The original owner got the optional extra of 17” 8J rims.

Would you recommend staying with these rim and paying extra of the 225/45 - 235/45 new tyres and higher road noise.

Or buy the std 16” 7J rims and long term save on cheaper tyres and get less road noise?

Not that concerned about the handling issue.

Has anyone done this swap? Pros and cons from your experience?

    Many thanks
    Ian

I would think the 16" tyres would be more expensive than the 17's. Have you looked at tyre prices yet?

    Hello and welcome!

i would stick with the 17's because any smaller it will look odd on a bmw especially a touring! Prices on 17's tyres arent that expensive. For a budget brand (Nankang) you are looking at £65-£70 fitted.

Something like this would be a good 17" tyre >>> http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...=m4b0s16p12922 or this >>> http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...m4b0s312p12925

The Falkens are generally rated highly but with almost budget pricing.

    Thanks for the advise.

Yep - got some prices, but looked at the main brands. Normally 30-50% more for the 17" than the 16".

But will look into the cheaper / budgets ones.
