    Hi All

I'm completely new to this forum as I've recently purchased gorgeous Titanium Silver 520d E60 and now I'm totally hooked.....

I'm in the middle of process of "deflecting" from my crazy little 120d E81 and after being fascinated with RWD for the very first time I'm switching to 5 series........ and after those few days of driving my E60 I finally start to understand the true meaning of BMW slogan "The Ultimate Driving Machine"...... 5 series is truly an awesome car and it's such a huge change from 1 series.....

Chris Bangle has done amazing job while creating this car!

Respect and thumbs up BMW ! :

Blimey someone who isn't slagging off the E60, you won't be popular on here as the E39 is a God on here and the E60 is the devil incarnate. I agree with you I like the styling of the E60 and it is a dream to drive. My 530d is all the car you could ever want, fast, economical and handles like a sports car when pressing on.
I find it so amusing that lots of the people bashing the later BMW's spend most of their time trying to turn the older models into later lookalikes, with aftermarket Xenons, body parts, steering wheels and stick on plastic Shark fins.
I suspect that a lot of E39 owners that slag the E60's off would jump straight in one given the chance of a straight swap.

I in fact would love an E60 but i can only affort an E39 here in italy the prices are a bit steeper compared to UK. But i have driven an e39 and i have to say it would have to be a lot better to sway me but its gonna be dificult cos the E39 its just so good.
    My BMW history= E36 318IS, 323I,Mini Cooper, E46 320 D SE and now E39 530D. awesome

Hello and welcome to the forum, it's good to have you with us. FWIW, I love the E60, just can't talk my wife into one yet (too big for her apparently).

Last year a had a 143 bhp 118d sport..... (least car a had for 18 months) it was and is a great drivers car.... On a quiet back road I know very well I saw a 535 (2009 ish) shoot off into the distance, this catched my eye so a pressed on really hard caught it up a mile or so on, at some very twisty bends..... To say the two cars are in a different class in many regards is true, however as I matched his speed through the bends my 1 series was not even trying and the 5 was a bit side ways and clearly had nothing elese to give in the cornering department.....

The 1 series has a sports car chassis and the 5 did not.....

I now have a e91 and this is some where in between... all 3 are great cars, the 5 one of my favourate, but the 1 series can go around bends very well.......

    Thanks for warm welcome guys!

You are all right. 1 Series is a great little car and good start to adventure with BMW.

My current 1er is my work / company car and it's lease is due to finish soon but after 3 years and almost 60k miles without even one technical problem I have a very high opinion of BMW build quality and RWD set up. This plus great handling inspired me to push my self and go for my own private 5 series and I love it already.

I use to drive many cars on a space of last 10 years with some very very inspiring ie. Alfa Romeo 159 that I regulary looked for and rented during holidays in Europe... 159 made a huge impression on me as well... you know.... Italians have their own special passion for making really beautiful cars plus sound of the engine !!! ufff... but I'm sure that you'll all agree with me that there is something damn sexy in BMW designs and they make their presence on the road visible like no other car out there.... People just can't be indifferent when they see one... BMW cars always attract emotions when they pop out from behind the corner.... Thumbs Up BMW!!!!

    You're probably right...

I do realize this but hey! We all know how good E39 was and still is but unfortunately to all of us the time goes by and designs change...

I grow up admiring E39 and I loved it but on the other side I remember when E60 showed up for first time and shocked everyone.. Wasn't that the goal of BMW to shock everyone and come up with completely new generation of cars??? We all know now that it was and they are damn successfull with this strategy....

Same thing with iDrive.... I remeber Clarkson complaining endlessly in 2005 while reviewing M5 about how complicated the idrive is... Ok I agree that at that time not many people had iPods that at that time probably resembled quite closely iDrive operation but have a look around now.... just 7 years later... Almost everyone has iPhone or Android smartphone and no one complaints about how complex these systems are... World is changing and I'm glad that BMW survives these changes and keep on creating great cars... Look on what happened recently to Saab..... They've made great cars but sticked too long to their classic designs and unfortunately this strategy didn't work for them too good....

I'm sure that let's say in 10 years time when 5 series G10 will be around current F10 and most probably us E60 lovers will have some spicy comments about it as well that's life
