    Hey all,

I may be joining the ranks of BMW owners, even if it could be a bit too brief for now at least, as I've just been handed my dad's late-2000 E39 520i:

It's our old family car, bought about five years ago, which has pretty much been run into the ground by these demons. Probably run into the ground. I wouldn't know, as I've only driven it twice, and one of those involved reversing it into the telephone post opposite my house

My dad gave it to me last week as they've got a new Mazda3 thingy now to play with. The idea was I'd just sell the car in its current state (they reckon it's worth up to a grand, I haven't really checked)and use the money I get from it to buy my own car. Of course, I have other plans - namely fixing and then claiming it for myself until one of the following happens:

    a) I go bankrupt trying to keep it running
    b) I wrap it round a telephone post properly this time
    c) I quit while I'm ahead and sell it on to buy something a bit more suited to my driving abilities

The last four nights I've had BMW dreams, so I'm taking it as a good sign

    - Bilal

    Hey Bilal. Welcome to BFUK

The e39 is a pretty sweet ride, especially when done up, so yeah hang in there and don't be reversing into any sort of pole now lol

Do you have any other plans for it other than restoring it to its former glory?

I'm sure you will find the forum very helpful and friendly if you need anthing, so see you in the forums and have fun!

Oh and come check out our BimmerForum UK City

@DragonLogicX: Thanks! I'm typing up my problems thread in the tech forum right now, hopefully I can get some advice/suggestions from members such as yourself.

I doubt I'd be able to handle it in the long-term, as I'm working part-time and finishing up uni (final year Physics BSc. wtf!). I imagine, if I manage to get it working cheaply enough, I'll get won over and won't want another car but we'll see how things go!

@ ose1665: Glad you liked it, although I type more than should be healthy

@ Deano16v: I'll be 27 next month. I guess not that old, but the 30's are looming...
