    Hi Guys,

Bought my first BMW on Friday after my Audi A4 Quattro got written off last month.

    I bought a 03 Plate Black 320d SE.

Very good nick inside and out, although slightly high miles on it.

    A few problems already though
    • Radio reception is crap, I love listening to Talksport and all I get is crackle
    • The Track Rod Ends are seized and they couldnt sort the tracking

Just wondered if anybody had any tips on curing this and any other things that I should look out for.

    Thanks
    Craig

Oh yeah and the Key that I have doesn't seem to operate the Central Locking, I have been told that when the key is in the ignition its self charging, I took it to a few places and they couldn't see how to replace the battery in the key.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

The key may have lost all power and need coding again... As for the radio signal.. Take the head unit out and check the connection of the radio antenna... Track rod ends... Replace them? Cheap enough on eBay mate

Oh and welcome is it the 150bhp? I had one before my 330 lovely car to drive, get some pics up
    Loud pipes.. Save lives..

    Welcome

    - Radio reception is crap, I love listening to Talksport and all I get is crackle

Common fault with the 320's, probably radio amplifier/receiver thingamawotzit, mine is the same and I still haven't got round to replacing that, I normally listen to MP3's etc. Replacement is simply remove old one, stick new one in, bob a job, access is in the rear quarter which can be a bugger to get to, but its not difficult, time consuming, but nothing to worry about.

    - The Track Rod Ends are seized and they couldnt sort the tracking

Have them removed by a garage if necessary for the tools to tackle it, and get new ones put on

The keys do self charge while in the ignition which keeps them topped up - however batteries do still age and there will be a battery inside that can be renewed am sure. If its flat flat, as mentioned may need coding, BMW could do that for you. That happens a lot with the spare key, which is stored somewhere and never gets used, so if you have more than one main key its worth cycling them so they both get some charge now and again.

Direct any problems you're having etc in the technical forum for the e46's, loads of folk ready to help and advise etc, many read that forum all day
