Hi mate, welcome aboard. Nice Evo

I've not long bought an E46 330d, mines the 204bhp manual model and I'm still well chuffed with it. The manual seems to be the way to go, and if you are looking at a saloon then try to find one with folding rear seats, it makes them much more practical.

I've just got 530 miles from £60 of fuel with a mix of driving reasonably sensibly and the occasional blast. The dash read an average of 45mpg to that tank, I've been driving the car a bit harder on this tank and the average mpg is down to 41mpg (still half a tank left). Its doing 2500rpm in 6th at 95mph! which makes motorway work is an absolute doddle. The car is an absolute blast on b roads too, very sure footed with great brakes and plenty of grunt to power out of corners. As the lads on TopGear demonstrated the 330 with some suspension and brake mods will also hold its own on the track too.

Hope this helps, good luck with your search you won't be dissapointed.

Looks OK but ideally I'm after a 03+ plate.. the 3.0 204bhp motor.

    I've seen the 2.9 330d's as low as 3G!

Cheers anyway mate. Keep them coming

I used to have a spy on the mlr, I wasnt a member.

Same here, I could afford to run it, i used it as a 2nd car, but when i thought about it, I had 11k worth of car sitting in the garage which might get used once a week, it was a nice but a expensive toy.

So i thought long and hard and bit the bullet and to be honest i love the BM, its not the quickest thing in the world, but i can use it every day without worrying about the mileage going up, its much more comfy and iam not paranoid where i leave it (which my other half used to hate haha)

    Just my 2p worth

    Cheers mate

Yes the manual looks like the one to go for... better mpg too.
What models have the folding seats? That would deffo be a bonus as it's a niggle I've hated with the Evo.

You don't even know how good those economy figures and the cars motorway suitability sounds to me right now .

Aye the top gear eposide is class. Not bad for a black smoker!

    Thanks for the advice.

All very valid points mate. An Evo as a 2nd car is an expensive toy to have. :(

It was an option on all the saloons, from what I've seen about half of them have it. Seems mad that anyone wouldn't tick that option when buying new, the split fold rear seats can't be retrofitted either as believe it or not they use a different bodyshell.

That is weird. There must be cross bracing for shell stiffness on the shells that don't have folding rear seats. I'll have to have a look at this when viewing.

    Thanks for the info.
