    Hey up!

Currently I drive a GTi6, but keep finding myself wanting an E34 5 series. The price of them has fallen so low recently, I find myself being drawn to buying one, and I've always loved the V8 growl so I'm thinking it would have to be a 540.

Ive done a few quotes and looked at the MPG and provided I dont boot it all the time (Im in my mid 30's so it doesnt happen very often ) it looks like it wont be that much more than the GTi6 to insure and run. I might even be able to keep the Peugeot as well!

Ive been trying to read as much as I can, but I havent actually seen a 540i manual for sale anywhere! Am I likely to be able to find one? Do they go for about the same price as the autos? I know I'll have to be prepared to travel; my GTi6 was a 200 mile round trip to buy

Anyone got any suggestions on where to look for one - obviously Autotrader and Pistonheads, but there seems to be so many owners forums...

    Cheers!

    Nev.

    Hi and welcome Nev

Your on the right track mate!!

Youve found the number 1 bmw forum and you will get good advice on here...

I have never seen a 540i manual in all honesty so dont know where you would get one..

I would say buy it from

    1/pistonheads

    2/Autotrader

3/ebay (of course view a car before bidding)

Let us know if you have any more questions

Hello and welcome to the forum justinaccurate,

The manual e34 540i was only made for 2 years, 1994 and 95, so you will have to look well, less than 1400 were produced overall and of them how many came to the UK, I don't know

Err wow OK so it is a bit of a rarity. The Rallye (the lighter version of the GTi6) had only 500 in the UK and I see them for sale all the time., but only because of the websites I use. Also the car is 5 years newer than that so I think it might be a struggle and I may be looking at the Auto :(

    The autos are fantastic cars.
ive driven one a few times and it was uber luxury driving.

I normally am a manual gearbox guy myself...unless the car is a V8 luxury tourer and I woudl happily have an auto box.
Sooo nice in traffic and at junctions etc

    it 'almost' drives itself!!

But having said that, now ROnnie has confirmed they exist, Im pretty sure Ive seen them come up for sale from time to time.
You just need to keep looking for a while and strike quickly when you do find one.
