I picked up my first ever BMW last weekend, a 2006 E91 330d in black and I have to say WHAT A CAR!
My car history reads as:
1996 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 - several years
2005 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SRI - 4 years, now the wife's
2005 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 130 - 1 month (it was the champagne gold one - I quickly grew to dislike the colour)
2006 Seat Ibiza FR TDI 130 - Nice quick car, but wanted something more grown-up and larger
So as you can see, the BMW is quite the step-up and so far I am really happy with it.
I joined this forum as I have found it to be the most useful BMW forum going (I had to join as I read that many threads I was not allowed to view any more without registering). All the most informative threads seem to be here, so well done guys! I am not a member of many forums.
My car is an SE spec car and is lovely to drive. I bought it with 110,000 miles, but it feels much smoother than my Ibiza which I sold with 30,000 miles. My intention is to keep this car for quite a few years, so I am not worried about trying to recoup my money at the end. I am fairly mechanically competent, so ill do some of the manintenance myself (e.g. I will preserve the FSH, but will probably do an oil/filter change halfway between).
My main hobby is mountain biking, hence the E91 instead of E90, but I have been a bit lazy recently, so need to get out.
My first goal is to get myself some winter tyres. I have read a lot on the internet and there is a lot of confliciting information out there, particularly regarding offsets and wheel size to fit over the front brakes . I think I want entirely separate wheels for winter, and would go for 4 at the same size front and back (my current set-up is 255/35/18 + 225/40/18). Wheels such as 2nd hand MV2s have taken my fancy, but I need to figure out offsets etc.
Anyway, now I am registered here, I can start browsing the forums again and get the answers to my wheel questions and any other questions I have.
