Hi all, just thought I'd drop a quick message to say hello to everyone.

I've just bought a 1998 E46 318i saloon in steel blue with 93k on the clock. Couple of niggles with it but nothing that shouldn't be too much hassle, exhaust is blowing, passenger window regulator has given up the ghost and there's a small leak from the oil filter housing. Should keep me out of trouble for a little while!

Anyway, no doubt I'll end up asking for advice as time goes on, and if anyone encounters the same issues as me I'll offer what help I can.

It's a pleasure to meet you all (sort of)

Hi Sparx. Do you have the auto or manual 318i? How do you find the acceleration?

I used to have one of these. 1999 t plate 318i se and the acceleration wasn't up to much! I always thought there was something wrong with it. Saying that tho for a car that had done 190k it was a dream to drive on the motorway. Sat at 80mph for hours and was very comfortable in se spec. My current m sport is much harder on the ride front. Better in corners tho!

Mine was manual by the way. Good motors but I found the cooling system fragile. Maybe because mine was a high miler. Needs to be kept on top of.

Sorry for delayed response, it's a manual. I've only driven it for a short test drive and then drove it the whole couple of miles home when I bought it so can't really comment on acceleration at the moment. Can quite happily say it was much more comfortable to drive than the other half's focus though.

Jamie - when you say the cooling system was fragile what issues did you have so I know what to keep an eye out for? The radiator and top coolant hose were replaced a couple of years ago but on the garage invoice it says customer supplied radiator so it could have been a second hand one thrown on.

With a bit of luck I might be able to make a start working on it this weekend, might even be able to get a couple of pictures up at some point too!
