    Situation,

I have decided to trade my current car (Mazda RX-8) in for a new vehicle, and spotted a nice 2003 E46 320Ci Coupe near me. Went to view it, and it looked in mint condition, only 50k on the clock.

Got in it, and the EML (Engine Management Light) stayed on after starting.. so I spoke to the salesman, and he told me that that is how it came in, and the faults aernt fixed until the car is sold. So basically he said that included in the price the fault would be fixed and the code cleared..

    Any thoughts

    Thanks
    Mike

Get them to READ the fault codes first if your really interested in the car so you can judge how the previous owner has kept the car.

ie maf sensor, lamda, cam sensor etc can be changed but cost quite abit but if they're doing it for free then its worth it

If they're not willing to look at the problem and tell you before you make a deposit or commitment then walk away...that's not the way to make a sale in my eyes, and could make it too risky.

Perhaps ask them if they'd be ok with you bringing in a diagnostic tool to read the codes - if they're genuine, they'll say no problem, if they say that they don't allow that or something like that then walk away.
