I have owned my BMW 520d 177 Touring for just under a year. Saturday saw the thing break down completely at a busy set of lights. Towed into garage- told the DPF had gone- that'll be £800 please! Today told that it is also the turbo- can't get a recon one as they are not doing them yet as Mitsubishi are not releasing the parts for it yet(!) so will have to have a new unit...£that'll be £3k in total! Has anyone any suggestions for the turbo? BMW UK not interested in major component failure in a car just over 3 years of age, however they tell me I can remain assured of their support in the future...

Yes avoid BMW stealers at all cost once the warranty runs out, what are the symptoms, the DPF can be cleaned and the turbo can be refurbed what ever you have been told, it is a Garrett GT17 which is used on just about every 2 litre turbo diesel on the market.

DPF cleaning is a two hour job and Midland Turbo can probably sort out a refurb unit for £700

There is a lot of BMW knowledge here so feel free to fire questions out and wlecome to the forum

    Thanks for that!

...the DPF was ordered yesterday and fitted yesterday with no mention that it could be cleaned...need to have a conversation with my garage I think. Have requested info from several places who say they can recon my own turbo...so I will see what they come back with tomorrow.
