    Hey all!

I am brand new to this forum stuff, not so new to the BMW. I became addicted to the BMW range when I got a amazing deal on a E36 316i. Of course for the price it needed a few things to get it how I would like it to be.

I used to fabricate cycles but now have stopped that and focused on the BMW's. so far I have become fed up with the slow 316i and am thinking of upgrading to a E36 318is (i have fallen in love with the E36 range). A slow progress to eventually aim for the M range of the E36's.

Finally it's great to be part of a group that (i guess ) are as mad about BMW's as I have become to be!

As for the Meerkat name...(real names Kieran) I was watching a documentary on them and thought it sounded kinda funky! Plus being from down south (South Africa) thought it fitted just nicely!

Anyway back to the question of the 318is, worth it?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the site

I used to have an E36 318i and went through a couple of other cars before getting another BMW, being my E36 318is coupe.

This car, although not the quickest, has a great engine, smooth and quiet when cruising, but put your foot down and it makes an awesome sound. In the higher rev ranges it's quick, in the lower ranges not so much, but still has enough pull. This can mean you can manage 40mpg if it's in good nick and you drive it right - I've had 44mpg out of it.

    Good luck in your search

For what its worth i have had a 318 is and as above, not the quickest car in the world but does everything well. Only problem i had with mine was being pulled over twice a week.
