Hey there, just thought i would get my first post on this very useful forum and show off my new bmw 328i SE auto.
I am well pleased with what i have got for a snip at £3000. It has done 100,000 miles but looks mint inside and out.
This is my first bmw so if there are any key issues i should look out for please let me know.
Just to reassure me....with the mileage it has done should i expect any problems that occur around this mileage. It drove like a dream so fingers crossed i have got a good buy. Cheers

    nice buy!

As its driving fine, just leave it alone until you notice that something needs attention.

Generally suspension bushes don't last much longer than 45,000miles, but as BMWs handle well, early stages of wear can remain hidden until they are shot. Just have them inspected at your next service for condition/play.

Keep on top of servicing and enjoy.

    Hi and welcome Guy
Looks a lovely car you've got yourself there
Its staggering what a pasting used car prices have taken over the past 2 years!! you get soooo much more for your money nowadays....having said that, the money is harder to come by I suppose to it's swings and roundabouts as they say.

Regarding reliability....you dont mention if the car has any service history or receipts for such?
Either way, 100k is just about broken in for a 2.8 litre BMNW straight 6 so you can sit happy in the knowledge that you have yourself a reliable motor car.
There are no major issues with this model that I am aware of and the 2.8 litre motor is well proven in the previous E36 family (328i) so just enjoy driving it and go easy on the right foot if you want to keep fuel costs sensible

Also, when you have any technical questions please post them in the correct E46 tech sub forum here
    http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f18/

and please title any threads starting with your car year, Model and CC
    example - 1999 E46 328i - problem with XXYY

as it helps us greatly in keeping the forum tidy (and useful)

Congratulations on your new purchase Guy P and welcome to the forum, good to have you with us ,great choice in car.

Keep a eye on the rear springs, they are common for breaking, rear trailing arm bushes split after time also and make the rear end feel unstable, see here for a bit more info http://www.windigoauto.com/E46CommonProblems.html

Thanks for your responses! The car has a full bmw service history up until 90,000 miles with the most recent service at 100,000 being done by the garage as part of the sale. MOT is until next June so i think i have done pretty well!
With regards to the fuel consumption i am expecting it to be fairly high but to be honest i have got such a bargain i'm not too worried!

The straight 6 BMW engines are suprisingly economical, provided all is working well.

Welcome. Good price! As said the 328 should be surprisingly economical on fuel and mileage is not a problem.

One common problem on the eraly E46's to look out for is cracks in the rear subframe.
