    Welcome to the forum!

There is a lot of stories here about turbo failure but key to making the turbo last is changing the oil, the BMW service shedules are mad, you need to change the oil on a derv engine every 10k as it soots up so much.

If you want to keep a full BMWSH carry on but get an indy to do an intermediate oil/filter change every 8-10k, if you are comfortable doing a DIY job (and it is very easy) it can be done for as little as £32.50, you can buy 5 litres of General Motors Dexos 2 oil (BMW Longlife 2004 quality) for £22.50 on ebay and the oil filter for £10 at Halfords. You will need a 36mm socket to get the top off the oil filter housing and a oil catcher is a good investment. It should take no longer than 15 minutes which is quicker than a trip to the garage.

To answer the question, mine has done 160k and I am just beginning to worry that it might be dying
