Im chris from newcastle.
A bit of a major honda fan. Been slightly turned. Still love honda's but need a break from old civic's. Was fairly tempted with an e36 m3. But i was left carless recently so wanted a sub 2 grand daily car and fancy'd a diesel for work.
All my mechanic training ( if it can be called such) was in the army. So the idea of buying a modern common rail diesel with an electric high pressure pump kind of scares me. So the 318 tds fit the bill nicely. Nice simple setup. No expesive pumps to fail. Which is why ford and vauxhall got ruled out.
Views on the car so far...
Well its slow. I knew it was going to be going from a 190hp 900kg civic to a 1400kg 90hp bmw.
Not had it long enough to comment on comsuption, but hoping for 40-45mpg
Its nice and comfy. Nice drive, suits the drive to work much better than the civic.
My friend has some mapping equipment. So can get me the generic maps the major companys use and is going to get it done on the cheap for me.
Look in to a de-cat and blanking the egr to go with the mapping.
Would like a little extra power and torque. Make the car feel more pokey than slow.
Already toying the the idea of some lowering springs, ebaich pro's, 30mm would keep me happy, Rear spring need done for next mot so good excuse.
Love the look of 1 series 16inch steel wheels, so tempted with those to
