    Hi All

I've returned to BMW ownership after a long gap and as I'm ...er...of mature years, thought I'd get someting a little more comfortable and fun to drive than my rattly old XR4i daily driver that, believe it or not, replaced an asthmatic '89 525 8 valver that I hated.

So I bought an '02 320d Touring 2 years ago and within months it was totalled by a jackknifing muppet in an artic. Glad I wasn't in my old Ford!
Insurance payout and more cash saw an '03 M-Sport version of the same car on the drive, and I love it. Sure, it's not the quickest Beemmer, but it handles fabulously for an estate and is supremely comfortable. My Ford upbringing means I still have 3 of the things; the only vaguely interesting one being a V8 Mk 2 Escort, but that's for an 'Old Skool Ford' forum I guess.

Looing forward to enjoying the advice, enthusiasm and mateyness that Bimmerforum seems to offer.

Welcome, the new BMW sounds nice!

I've never seen a V8 MK2 Escort...... is its a rare car or one that you have tinkered with?

Welcome to the forum MikeM, good to have you with us,

Pics of the V8 MK2 scort are a must, I presume it's had a big tunnel welded in too clear the box? 5 link? or did it go IRS

They didn't exist, so it has been tinkered, unlike the Sierra XR8, but that was Saff African

Seems you've turned a negative issue into one that is far more positive. Well done, great choice of vehicle

Well thanks for such a great welcome guys!

The Escort is a '77 with a good clean shell. It only runs a 3.5 Rover so is not fantastically quick (200 brake), but has nice mid-range torque and that lovely V8 burble. It's got SD1 heads, a Real Steel cam, an Edelbrock carb and matching manifold, 5-speed manual box, Scimitar rear axle with PowrLok LSD and Bilstein front and (turreted) rear struts. The conversion was done by a mate in the mid-nineties and I bought it off him a few years ago. Good fun on a sunny day when you want to deplete the ozone layer a bit, but the 3-series is far more comfortable, easier to drive and far more econiomical!

Will take some pics at the weekend and post them next week sometime.

    Cheers
