Just bought an E39 540i touring..what a beast & I think fabulous condition for year..absolutely everything works...lovely service book with all the dealer stamps every 10,000 miles & every single bill, piece of work history in date order that has been done to it..
Well I test drove it - no problem
Picked it up from garage & drove it home ( 100 miles ) - no problem
Left in on drive overnight
Well this morning I decided to go for a spin it her
Started her up - beautiful sound
Turned the steering ( about 2 - 3 inches ) horrible noise & judder in steering wheel
Reversed out of drive still noisy, went around around a tight roundabout - still noisy
Pulled out right onto a main round - still noisy & bit of judder
Now going along in a straight line everything seems fine
But wait , a left turn puts paid to that ( still slight judder & noise.
Drive for about 2 miles - then all of a sudden everything perfect..and has been all day
Started it today - same problem
Any ideas guys - any members had the same problems - thinking could be power steering belt..DSC intermittent fault
There again I don't really know enough about cars to make an informed decision
Wasn't thinking of paying out money on it quite so soon
( 2 days )----gulp !!!
