    Hi everyone,

My name is Chris and Im from Liverpool Just bought an E36 BMW 320i, and I do hope to begin to tweak it over time to get a bit more out of it, thought this would be the right place to ask for advice, and also see some great examples of how to do it!

    Hi Mad MC01

Good to have you on the forum

Dont worry, not everyone on here mods there cars or has them as blinged (in the best possible way. as I love his car) as much as A20 RYM!

You wont be letting the side down at all. Your car looks cool and has plenty of potential.
Just wait till the modding bug bites you though

Hey any beemer is a cool beemer... the only way you'd let the side down is if you chopped in for anything other than a beemer

Remember this if you do choose to modify... It's like a drug, it becomes addictive. It costs ALOT of money. One bad choice and it can make your car go from looking mint to looking CHAV.

I've had my car for years. The only reason I bought it is because when I was a kid I always said I was going to own an E30. Obviously when I got older I started to appreciate the shape of the E36. I chose the 318 because it was affordable.

I later realised that there were other beemer's that were so more powerfull but I'd not be able to insure them so I continued modding. Then one day I learned of a smashed M3 for sale. After alot of scrimping and scraping I found £1800 and put it on the sellers table, I told him that was every penny I had and he not only let me have it but he also arranged to have it delivered included in the price... Result.

At a later date I would like to supercharge it and paint the wheels ( Black wheels with a white Lip ) so the car is totally colour coded.

If I was to have to do it again though I would just replace the wheels, lower, tint widows and replace exhaust and remove any chrome.... I hate chrome!

PS if you don't have an M3 then NEVER put an M3 badge on it... It's tacky!
I would never dream of doing it, even now as on my log book it states 318is and the engine size shows the capacity of the 3.0 litre ( 2990 I think ). I always refer to my car as being an M-powered 318is because that is exactly what it is.

I am still tempted to have a black 318is badge on the boot... Just for fun

Thanks Boostist and Ronnie for your warm welcome

On my search for a decent E36 I did come across far too many "Chav'd" up ones... Think its such a waste and a terrible shame :(

Ive always wanted a good sleeper car, and was looking at E36 M3s being broken down and M3 engines too. And I hate the fact that some people do put M-Tech badges on cars that are clearly not anywhere near that powerful!

I got the 320i I have now to replace the old Ford Escort 1.8TD I had. Im suprised that there wasnt a change in my insurance! Unfortunately I dont think I could stretch to an M-Tech engine as of yet, Id love to know more about what Im dabbling with before I take such a dive into a deep puddle :S

I did have an E39 520i for a little while, but that had to go as I was too young, and the insurance was a little too much... Plus the local police always ha a good time in stopping me because of my age and what car I drove :(

Thanks boostist for the vote of confidence with the potential! As my car is a '91, its a non-VANOS engine though, is this going to hinder me from any decent modifications to the engine? I dont think anything major is going to happen in the engine bay at the moment anyway, need to get it all tidied up first

    Welcome fella

Car looks good. You made a good buy there

Just take things step by step and don't try and do stuff you cant afford (or will get you in debt) and the car will get there as time goes on provided your happy to put some work in yourself and learn whats what with them if you dont know already!
