    Hello

I am new here and have just purchased my first BMW 5 series 2003 with 100k on the clock. The car is in great nick and drives really nice. I have noticed one or two strange things though.

The main thing I am worried about is when I accelerate between 1.5 and around 2.5 rpm the car makes like a sucking noise, when you carry on it seems to go away higher up the revs, either that or I just can hear it over the engine. The car pulls like he'll and is extremely quick all the way. There is a k n air filter in it and I assumed it was just that making the sucking sound. As it was randomly throwing up the occasional fault and not starting (after being washed ) I took it to a garage and a BMW guy took me out for a run. He said it was lovely to drive with no issues but said its definitely been re mapped big time as its super fast. He said he was unsure if the k n filter would be making the sucking type noise and wondered if it could be the turbo. He then said the fact that its been re mapped so hard could be randomly throwing up faults (which include fuel filter, transmission and dynamic steering). They only come up occasionally and when you turn it off and leave it for a bit they clear. Once it's running it shows no faults and is grand.

I'm a bit worried and don't really know what to do, I wondered was some water leaking in causing the fault but now I'm worried that the turbo may be on its way out. I am hoping if someone would know if k n filter would make that sucking noise on a 530d as it revs up or should I worry?

If anyone has any ideas re these strange issues I'd love to hear your ideas.

    Stephen

i would say is just filter noise at a guess, its sucking large amounts of air in with a k&n but dont hold me to that and turbo should be fine aslong as theres no smoke apart from the diesel black reek any blue or grey smoke could be an issue tho

nope, I have K&N and its mapped, however with the rumble of diesel you would not hear air being sucked. perhaps its whistling noise?

Oh dear, then I am worried, its definitely not a whistle, its like a big sucking of air noise when u accelerate between 1500 n 2500 rpms. Then after that its just the engine noise, does it sound like a turbo on its way out in that case?

I have a mx5 drift car with a kn style air filter and it makes an induction noise (sucking sound) when you give it a boot full of revs. This is normal.
    Cheers
