Hello everyone, I'm Paul and I've just bought my 2nd BMW, a 2001 330d Tourer. It is to replace a Subaru Forester Turbo which I adored but hurt my pocket too much with fuel costs.. £495 last month on petrol... Ouch. So I'm hoping the 330 is going to be a bit better on fuel costs although I think only once the novelty has worn off the monster torque! I had a E30 2.5 Tourer about ten years ago for a while, and regret not buying the E30 M3 that I was offered for 2.5k in 2001... Still I did buy the 1965 Mini Cooper 'S' and don't regret that!!
i'm big into my Mini's although just the classic one at the moment.. I'm not one of the New Mini haters and would deffo have one if I didn't need to tow stuff!
My plans for the 330 are to probably do as I normally do and stick with the totally stock or uber subtle exterior but improve the mechanicals, It has already been remapped, so i'll probably just concentrate on getting the chassis sorted for now.. Oh, and fitting a towbar. Looking forward to meeting the characters on here and hoping for some advice maybe? I'll probably try and chip in with some of my general engineering experience every now and then!

This is what I drag around on the tow hook..

    Right.
    Where do I start?
No seatbelts, crashbars or sun hat.
    Competition seat regs?
There's no doors. How do you get out in an accident?

Looks like a piggin good giggle.
Can I have a go mister?
    Welcome.

Well, I've got the car and had the chance to settle into it now, all I can say is WOW! What a great car, it is honestly the car I should have bought 3 years ago when I got my last one.. The last car was also a fabulous car (Subaru Forester XT) but had a serious drink problem.. The torque is soooo addictive and I'm still showing 40.8 mpg after 500 miles of fast motorway and B road blasting.. The subie would do 25mpg under the same conditions.
I'm just getting the hang of all the little BMW features, I've read the owner's manual from front to back, clever buggers these Germans.. The only thing i will miss is the 4wd but i'll get a set of winter tyres for it as having had lived in Germany for a while I know what a huge difference these can make!
I'm already planning how to get myself into a newer/lower mileage 330d.. Glad I went for the manual too!!
