    Howdy all,

New to here, just bought a new car so thought I would join up and say hello, and hopefully get some advise.
The car I bought is an 03 plate (non facelift) black 330ci sport conv with black leather, auto xenons, electric heated seats, parking sensors and passengers mirror that moves when I reverse
Car has done 62k with full service history (some main dealer some not), but there was a 24k gap between one of the earlier services (which stupidly I didn’t notice when buying the car), the gap is between the 1st 'inspection 2' service and the next 'inspection 1' service. Hopefully this ont come back to haunt me, but it might have already!
I am a real worrier about ever little noise or odd thing I see on my car, so here is a list of current gripes that have popped up since purchase, hoping one of you lovely chaps can give me a little sanity!

1/ rattle coming from somewhere on the rear passenger side (think its outside) when going over any degree of bumpy surface, it doesn’t sound like heavy mechanical rattling, but rather a heat shield type of sound, it seems to be getting louder and is really annoying!! ( Have had the car on the ramps at kwikfit and looked under myself with them, it isnt the exhaust heat shield, nor the exhaust or CAT, plus we ran over the car from front to back prodding things with no rattles. Also had a look at sub frame which looks fine) Someone said it could be a brake disk sheild? Thing is, the only time it doesn’t see to make a rattle is over big sleeping policemen.

2/ Noticed a weird thing yesterday with the brakes, (they always work well and am told by the RAC guy that checked the car over during an inspection that the pads are all new) started the car up at work and drove abour 30 metres, the car in front of me slammed his brakes on so I had to have a quick stab, when I did there was a WEIRD feeling back from the pedal, like I was putting my foot on a gear cog that was was moving, tried this again and it did the same thing, like there was something under the pedal. After this it normal, but then did it again when I came off the motorway and was stopping coming up to a roundabout. The car still brakes but it just does not feel right.

3/ Something that I felt on the test drive but the RAC guy said was quite normal on E46s? And that it with the gear stick. Sometimes, it wont stay central when out of gear, it seems to want to stay over to the right in front of 5th gear. The gear changes are all fine, but going from 2nd to 3rd sometimes is a bit tricky as the stick centres in front of 5th instead of 3rd. I have since read that this is a fault bmw know of and is a result of wear on the locking pin bearing bushes? The BMW doc number showing this is 23 01 04 (063) apparently (whatever that is).

I know it seems like there may be lots wrong with the car, I don't know what problems others have, but I love the car and apart from these points it is immaculate both inside and out. Point 1 and 2 defo need resolving (and the car is still under a warrantee from the garage), not that concerned about point 3 as the gear changes are fine, but I would like to know what it is and then make a decision on whether to resolve.

Like I said, I love the car, it looks great, goes even better and is a smoooooooother runner, plus I get to join this forum! :-)

Can anyone help or offer any advise please?

    Take care
    B

1/ No idea, try taking it to a decent BMW specialist.

2/ The treading on a cog like feeling you experienced. This is exactly the feeling you get when the ABS kicks in and from what you've said I wouldn't worry about it, just sounds like the ABS doing it's job.

3/ If you've got proof get the place you brought it from to sort it out.
