I think, being that there are so few of us E46 Compact members on here we should form out own group haha

I think the E46 Compact is a love it or hate it kinda car... alot of people look upon it as 'not a real 3 series'

    I however, disagree

I think the older model suspension setup used in the E36 compact gave the whole compact range a kick in the nads as far as new car owners were concerned when it was released. Add that to the fact the compact was the one series of its time, (being the cheapest bm available, at least it was until you started to spec it up) and it was guaranteed to get hit with the snob brush in basic form.

The E46 on the other hand is true 3 series underneath the different modelled front plastics and shotgun rear bodywork, something that removes the whole 'made to a price' issue. Which only leaves the actual looks as the sticking point. As said, you either love it or hate it. I hadnt paid a lot of attention to the E46 compact (gf had a 36), but when I saw the Mtech kitted E46 that I bought, I really did love the look of it. The fact it is so different in appearance from the front compared to the rest of the 46 range was actually something I liked.

I couldnt have carried half the stuff I have carried in anything but a compact or a touring. I like my BMWs, and the cabin of the compact is the same as any other beemer, so all in all, we get a performing beemer, with a lot more functionality. Trips to B&Q are a reality.
