    Hi all
I have finally taken the plunge and sorted the loan and soon to appear on my drive is an '05 325i sport convertible, grey with black leather and an auto box. You have no idea how long I have admired and wanted exactly that car!
I put down the deposit yesterday and will pick it up probably tomorrow but........
I did an HPI and everything looks good but it says that the VRM is no longer on the car and that the V5 issue date is incorrect. My theory is that it has had a private plate on it and the last owner has not notified the DVLA that he has taken it off - or does it mean something else? HPI stated that the VRM and the VIN matched so that is the only thing that makes sense to me.
Hopefully it will all be ok and photos will follow. (ps my only previous German and best car I have owned was a 2000 S3 Quattro which if I wanted a hot hatch, I would thoroughly recommend as it was awesome! hence S3quattrodrift)

thanks for the feedback on this point of etiquette, I will do upon collection hopefully tomorrow. I would feel a bit of a fraud to call myself that until I have the car.

I am new to cabriolets I decided to give up bikes the summer before last because dicks in cars would eventually kill me but had to have the sense of freedom that you get in a fast convertible. Can anyone tell me what the difference between a cabriolet and a convertible?? Anyway I am converted and I've always driven a bimmer since my first 320 se in 1990

I sold my CBR600rr last summer also, similar reason been riding 20 years without anything major but everyday riding in to London someone would try to get me!

IMO a cabriolet has a rollover bar (remember loadsa' money's Escort) and a convertible has a clean and unobstructed line.

Spoke to the dealer who agrees it isn't right with the VRM and is trying to resolve it - which will probably delay delivery

Following on from HPI question - I binned the 325 and tomorrow I will be collecting my 330 sport convertible auto.

Now S3quattrodrift can be laid to rest and I want to update to a Beemer tag. How do I change it in my profile and any suggestions, I was thinking BMWMLCSport (MLC=mid life crisis!). Any better suggestions?

Hi, sounds like a sweet car. I'm assuming its the e46 325i vert? The 3 series verts do hold their value extremely well. I wouldnt worry too much seeing as the VRM and VIN match. Just make sure the car has full service history and its in a good mechanical condition.
How do you find the autobox? Is it responsive? How is the cars acceleration compared to your older audi S3?

    Hi
just got home from collecting the car!
Beautiful dark blue E46 330ci Sport Convertible with grey leather. Auto box is fantastic and suits the lazy nature perfectly but boot it at 50mph and it kicks down and takes off. Totally different beast to the S3 which was a small capacity (1.8) turbo nutter car with 225 bhp in a small hatchback with 4wd, brilliant when I was in my early 30's but now this is my perfect car.

Picked up my kids (14&15) an they insisted we had the roof down even though it was 0*c outside but with heated seats and heating up high, we were toasty up front. This is an awesome car and can't wait for summer now!

Hopefully post some pics soon, any suggestions on a new user name? or how to change it?

    Hi and welcome,

Congrats on your new purchase. Get prepared for the stiff necks from constantly looking back at it. Oh and the suspicious partner from you sneaking out at night for a quick blast at night lol.
P.s love the way you blamed the kids for wanting the roof down
    For a user name......CONVERTED

Nice, I have always known that the e46 3 liter petrol cars have a lazy nature about them, but do you not find your car sporty, despite being an autobox? I have tested both the e46 and e90 3 liter petrol engines (NA) and find the e90 be to be responsive and 'sporty' but its sound does not sound as sporty or deep as the e46.
