Haha I'm going to be totally honest with you I never knew that I suppose it's because I have always had petrol cars and never worked on a diesel so I just assumed they do, have you taken it to a garage and got them to put it on the computer

This may be another stupid thought but could it be something to do with the cat? If it's smoking it could be something to do with the exhaust and the idling can as well be something to do with the smoke making the sensors go funny there for making the car idle bad, also I think your problems can be caused by a lot of things

Hie, I have taken it to the garage, the first tym they told me the injector pump was faulty, and nw I replaced it and they are sayin the other injector pump is also faulty, but it was removed from a running car, so am seriously doubting their abilities nw.

The pump timing on these is critical and if wrong could be causing your issues. The hot start issue is a common one on these engines and I had a E39 TDS whichwas hard to start from hot but perfect from cold. There is a timed relay which you can buy that that tricks the ecu into thinking its cold and it then engages the primer pump and glow plugs then after about twenty seconds switches off and the engine runs as normal. Its easy to fit and costs about ten quid of ebay. Its listed for range rovers as they have the same engine. I suggest you get a diesel expert to look at the pump timing and see what they find.
    Good luck
    Cheers
    Jim
