Hi there, been registered and browsing for a couple days now so thought I'd introduce myself.
Real names Jamie, or Jay, from Crewe (Cheshire, NW, UK). Not much to say, partially trained as a mechanic (was working at a local garage for a good 6 months). Main job as an IT Techy, or will be once i find new employment :(
Now for the bit youve been waiting for, the car.
Bought her as a spares/repair Project of eBay about 6 months ago, for £180, then lost funds so now shes sat around waiting.
Late 1993, E36 318 SE. 4 Doors, 'Brilliant' Red. 82222 Miles when i picked her up.
I believe, going from what i've read its the M40 engine, ill get a picture soon so would be grateful if someone could confirm this?
When i bought her, she needed:
New front brakes (discs and pads)
A new ball joint
Drivers window didn't work
Sunroof only opened half way
Overheating when standing
Some serious Sill Welding
Missing a Foglight
On closer inspection all 4 shockers needed replacing
Brakes wern't as bad as i first thought, worked fine but had a slight judder/pull, so wouldnt get through MOT.
The alarm was shot, wouldn't arm without going off after 30 seconds.
After a week the Drivers sidelight and tail light stopped working, and headlights would flicker if i hit a Bump.
Passenger electric wing mirror would respond.
She came with lowering springs fitted on the front, and a pair of back springs ready to go on, which was great as one of the back springs was snapped.
Worked out that it was over heating because it was missing the fan cowling, and the window regulator was f*#ked, so off to the scrappys and bought:
Fan cownling, window reg, door card (as drivers one was abit tatty) and the ashtray insert (as it was missing), all for £15, Happy Days.
Put her into a bodyshop round the corner, had the back of both sills welded, and sprayed, along with the front drivers side, all for £100
Did a full service on her, Oil, plugs, filters. Shell Helix Oil, not supermarket c**p lol.
Managed to get my hands on a set of 17" M3 Alloys, £50
Swapped some tyres around at work and ended up with a full set of 225/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza's for... Nothing
Went 50/50 with a mate and bought a nakered half stripped E36TDS, was going to strip the suspension off for mine but that was shot to so a no go there. But swapped the mirrors around to fix mine and saved a couple parts for later.
Stripped most of the dash board down and found the switch for the lights wasnt connected properly, screwed it on properly and Bingo! Lights worked great.
Recently ordered some new brakes, Mintex Pads and Discs. £35 Delivered
Also fitted a new Fan Belt as the old one snapped.
Also fitted my JVC headunit (tape deck yes, but has a 12 disc changer in the boot, and stops it getting broke into, whos going to nick a Tape Deck?).
1100 Watt Sub, 1200 Watt amp, 12 Disc Changer in the boot.
400 watt 6x9s slapped in the parcel shelf (holes were already butchered :()
and Uprated speakers in the front kickpanels.
She came with big dopey chrome matts, so swapped these out for some black rubber/carpet ones I Kept from my previos Car.
Battery started to die, so swapped this out with the battery from my old Car.
Also noticed recently that it has a snapped engine mount, dont know how i missed it :(
And soon after, an unfortunate bunny cracked my remaining foglight :( RIP Bunny.
Also did a bit of DIY on the archs. Kinda worked.. But local company GT gave me the wrong paint :( but lighter in colour than mine :(
