OK, it does sound like flooding,

Click on the pic to expand.

That's the ECU box which is under the bonnet near the wipers. You have 4 large phillips screws to remove and the cover lifts off.
See if you can spot the same relay and pull it out. That will stop any extra fuel being added, and then crank the car over a few times to clean it out.
It'll usually almost catch midway through and stall again afterwards.

Pop the relay back and try starting again, and it should fire up.

Hello The End, sorry for being late coming back to you, I have had the plugs out again and they were still very wet, smelling of petrol, the car is turning over fine, it almost seems like an immobiliser stopping it firing, it has got remote control locking system, any ideas what it could be. I have had enough for today, the car was taken apart early this year but then due to illness in April and my current health I am not sure which way to go. I don't want to scrap the car and maybe given a bit more time and thought with the help of you guys the end result will be a sweet running car. Many thanks again for your help - please stay with me if you can - all the best from Roy

Have you been pulling out the fuses or relays to stop the fuel pump?

If it is turning over, it won't be a BMW immobiliser, as that would stop the starter too. Are there any other fobs or bits on there?
An aftermarket immobiliser would tend to go for the starter motor and fuel pump so it sounds unlikely.

Glad you've got it sorted, as next of the list would have been a fault code read to check things like those sensors!
