    hi been thinking of getting a 2004 2006 118d s 0r 120d s was just wanting to know if these years are prone to timming chain and repeating clutch probs i have read about and just some advice what to look out for when viewing these cars thinks for any help and advice

    The ones with problems were the N47 engines, and these are the 143bhp 118d, and 177bhp 120d.

    The earlier M47 versions were a 122bhp 118d and a 163bhp 120d.

    The N47 came about in 2007, so the years you are looking at are OK.

    thanks for your speedy reply and info i had 2002 320d witch had turbo filter and swirl flap probs will i have the same set up in these cars can i get diffrent filter for the turbo so it doesnt fail like my 320d thanks again

    Yep, it'll be the same M47 engine.
    They will probably already have the newer style vortex breather, and possibly a better design of swirl flap. I think they started making them out of plastic which is far safer but you might need to double check that.

    hi again going to pick car up on friday but can not seem to find out if the swirl flaps are a prob on this year 2006 m47 engine and if turbo filter needs upgrade looked all over but cant find anything on them filter not prob as i can look and tell if its old style thanks for any help
