Got a 06 plate with around 85000 miles - runs like a dream.

Got 18's on it - check out the picture and let me know what you think?

Also got a cheap dirty tuning chip
dieselexpress.co.uk £80 - makes a big difference to the car - drives a lot sharper and responsive - also better mpg. Whats the thoughts on these cut price tuning chips?

Hello and welcome to Bfuk . Tuning boxes? Wouldn't touch one personally. Rather have it remapped.

you have bought a bmw, a high end motor and yet you put a cheap second rate tuning box on, a system that tricks it in to thinking some thing else is going on so messes with the air and fuel. but unlike the remap that alters everything and doesn't mess with the complex torerences yet works with them to make the most of it and greater gains with not just power but drivability and reliability, at the end of the day mate its your choice,, i am not trying to make you feel crap, it is my opinion and if you like it the way it is then fairplay it is your car
Remapping is preferable to the more simplistic diesel tuning box, as it specifically instructs the vehicle to work at optimal values through the electronic mapping processes, as opposed to essentially `misleading` the ECU to perform differently. Although simple in principle, the procedure is complex and needs to be carried out by professionals. It is not invasive, in so much as most of the work is done via the vehicle`s on board diagnostic port and involves the transfer of data to and from the electronic chips stored in the ECU.

the only pro's i have read for tuning boxes is, they are cheap. they plug and play, and you have to pay again to move your map to a different vehicle. this seems to be the exact same speech on every website that says the box is better! looks like a paste and copy report lol. the remap as far as i now is undectable largly, where as the box is in the engine bay! thats the other excuse, but if you have a front on smash, are you going to try and get the bonet up to unplug the tuning box while in a multicar pile up?? at least its hidden in the ecu. after all it isn't a new chip soldered in like olden day 1's.
