I've booked my 545 in for the following at BMERC next week:

    - New Sparkplugs
    - Replace Brake fluid
    - MOT
    - refurb all wheels
    - replace front badge
    - Tighten handbrake
    - check brake pads & replace if less than 2000 miles left
    - investigate & fix the sound of a heavy rattle (sounds like a small bit of metal loose somewhere. engine runs fine otherwise) and the front belt is slipping

Its booked in for first thing on Monday and I'm expecting everything bar the last item to be around £500 all in. They've been very helpful and will give me a lift to the station when I drop it off.

I'll post back here with my feedback on what is supposed to be one of the better Indy BMW garages.

Ok, dropped the car off this morning and am now in the hands of Ercan (the guy who runs it) he was extremely friendly & dropped me off at the tube station to go to work.

The car is sounding extremely ropey - a metallic clanking, a heavy belt slipping type noise and I had a coolant warning level on Saturday (topped it up) and when I started it to take it in today. He reckons its the water pump thats failed...we'll see.

    So far, so good....

Ok, had a call from BMERC ten minutes ago...

Work progressing nicely, it failed the MOT due to low tyre depth on the rears, I'm getting some Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD's fitted, Ercan said to mail him with what I wanted so I have.

Noise/belt squeak was caused by a failed water pump which is now on order: £148 + VAT from BMW

All brake pads need to be replaced

    Handbrake has been tightened

All other jobs done & they are doing the air con check soon

To be fair its hard to fault, he explained that the rear pads were almost at the sensor so I may as well do them while the tyres are being done, the fronts are gone. Its pretty much what I expected, apart from the water pump so am going to leave the wheel refurb til next time....

I really dont think you'd get this level of detailed service from a main dealer - its hard enough getting them to answer the phone usually & it would cost almost twice as much.

Still, will see how good the work is in the long run I guess. Is anyone in the trade here? Is £148 & vat for a water pump for a 53 plate 545i about right - it seems about right to me, but I wouldnt know...

Ok, so picked up the car this evening. All work done at a total cost of £1226.

    The following was done:

    Spark plugs replaced
    Brake fluid changed
Front & rear pads & sensors changed
    New bonnet badge
    Water pump replaced
    Both rear tyres replaced
    MOT done
    Handbrake tightened
I cancelled the wheel refurb due to escalating budget!

    The car was valeted too.

Only a couple of gripes - the tyres I asked for were not put on - they've put on Dunlop SP01 DSST's instead of Goodyear Eagle F1's, also the service indicators on the iDrive were not all reset - the MOT still says June 09 & the front brake pads say 3K miles

The latter is pretty minor and I'm sure I can take back in next week to get it done but I am not too happy about the tyres. They sounded much louder on the drive back. They've said they can sort them out if I am not happy next week.

Not as cheap as I expected, but a lot cheaper than a stealer.

Thats sounds a bit on the expensive side-what tyres did you have put on this may account for some of the expense.Anyway would you recommend these guys?

Well I paid £190 for each of the tyres - as it turns out they fitted run flats (Dunlop SP01 DSST) by mistake which would have been £250 each. The only real complaints I have are that they forgot to reset the iDrive for the next MOT and that the badge on the bonnet is loose, I'll get them to sort that this week.

Yeah, I'd recommend them - I think at a dealer I'd have been looking at nearer £2000 all in. They are very friendly and seem to know what they are doing. They use all OE parts and the car seems to be running fine - I guess we'll see longer term
