I have been using Paddock Motors (Exeter) Devon, for several years now.

They started in a small way in a unit on Fairmile straight, they then moved to larger premises in Fenny Bridges near Honiton, before moving again to the much larger premises they now have at Oaklands garage near Aylesbeare.

It is a very professionally run business, with several enthusiastic technicians, who are well trained, and able to tackle any job you may have on a BMW. Their hourly rate is far less than the local main dealer, and the work is excellent. The only real downside, is that they tend to be busy, making it hard to get booked in!!
If in doubt and when all else fails - read the instructions!!

For years have taken a E65 7 Series there, now 535d and get the Boxster MOT'd there, run a lot, I mean a LOT of 1 series with around 160,000 miles on as courtesy cars, never not been able to get a spare car when needed, in comparison when newer have been to Coopers a lot and never had a courtesy car from them....

I've nothing but praise for the guys at Bromspec:
Bromspec Motorwork BMW and MINI specialist Andover Hampshire

The address is Hampshire, but I suspect they may just sneak onto the Wiltshire side of the border.

They aren't German car specialists but the actually diagnosed a fault that I had been into a German car specialist garage for 3 times.

Just checking for a BMW garage in my area and this is the only one listed for East Yorkshire. http://www.jctechnical.co.uk/. He isn't in Yorkshire and it isn't a garage.

I can highly recommend Redish Automotive. Only works on BMW's, very friendly and knowledgeable. Only downside, can be a bit of a waiting list.

This garage comes very highly recommended. Like the above post, there can be a bit of a wait to get your car booked in as the garage is very popular with both BMW and Audi owners.

Lee Shannon BMW Specialist In Bentley, Farnham

I just wanted to share my experience with this mechanic, he is one man band but very very good. He was recommended to me*through a friend of a friend who has M3 and M4 (nice family pack) being looked after by Lee. I then googled him and everywhere he is highly rated.

I was prepared to drive for 30 miles to see him and get my 97,000 bimmer diagnosed, i know car has some issues here and there (nothing major),*i got MOT comming up soon (need to know if anything will fail)*and i keep having trouble with tracking so it all made sense get someone good to check this all out with me under the car and if i have to pay extra for good quality service, so be it.

I came to him last week for one hour diagnostics,*i was very impressed by his knowledge, he examined every inch of the car,*detailing where there is an*issue, known issues to the model, what could be a developing issue and etc... we then run OBD diagnostics to pick up any faults and checked software updates on the transmission and engine. He also done little touch ups here and there as some rivets and screws were missing and kindly lubricated door locks for me, then we had a chat and tea.*I came away thinking what a nice guy*(breath of fresh air) and having detailed report in my hand with all prices item by item.

I was not planning to return to him to get all issues sorted as he is far and i was going to get all works done by maybe couple different workshops near me. Then on*same day i looked at his costs again and they were really not massively overpriced, thinking;*would i pay a little premium for his reputation, knowledge and dedication and answer was YES, i booked my car in for this week to get all done by solely him.

My car was ready 1 day earlier to agreed deadline. When i arrived to collect and pay what was agreed i realised he did not charge for extras he did as per below list, some are minor but really i don't think many mechanics would just do it for free:

-He kindly installed second hand engine under tray that i ordered from ebay to his address

-My AC control unit started playing up day before i drove the car to him, again he received used one i ordered from ebay to his address, installed it, coded it in and tested 3 times.

-My car had some clips and holding plastic tubing missing where the air cabin filter tray is (in front of it), he simply ordered the parts and fitted them for free, i am sure it didn't break his wallet but really where do you get someone doing this??

-Litre of oil top up as he replaced breather valve and perished oil tubes.

On the final note, perhaps he hasn't got all the latest gadgets and big fancy garage but he has got a great level of customer service and skill set. He is mostly booked heavily but i noticed he works from 08.30am till average 18:00*or sometimes later. Sometimes you can't get hold of him for couple hours, i guess he is working on a car, just ring him back, you will get him and he won't cut you off and will spend time talking to you, when he is with customer, he will politely mention this one the phone. For fun*I have asked him if he was going to do a website and he said he doesn't need it the way his business is been*- full booked.

Forgot to mention he doesn't appear to markup prices on the parts hence he itemise each part and labour with a unit rate, so many garages do that which is annoying...
