    Is anyone able to volunteer themselves or someone else as a machanic that is good with E46 3 series that will not charge over the top rates?

    Think it might be the cylinder head gasket.

    I've taken all of the air out of the cooling system and replaced the thermostat and there is still a problem in there. I'm don't think it's the water pump but haven't had this tested yet.

    I get intermittent hot air from the blowers and the temperature guague is showing hotter than normal once the car has been running for a while.

    I've taken your advice Steve & Billy and booked my motor in at Prestige German Cars.

    I'll let you know how I get on - price seems very reasonable indeed.
